"FOR THIS HOLIDAY HOUSE I have taken inspiration from fashion designer
Stuart Membery and his 90's designs.

He was well known for his bold, wide black and white-striped
fabric and luxurious furnishings.

This house is by the sea but only has a few marine references.

I have picked a neutral color palette with lots of different woods and steered
away from the weathered or aged furniture that I usually prefer."

Like me - your fingers are probably calloused from turning the pages of new-release interior / cookbooks.

Can’t get enough of them.

Yesterday, I received a wonderful “care package“ from Australia of late release lifestyle books and

amongst them was

“Guillaume – Food for Friends”

WOW!!! -

This book is has re-set the bench mark.

Celebrated Chef Guillaume Brahimi

(Bennelong Restaurant @ The Sydney Opera House)

opens the doors of seven private houses and creates

“food for friends”

in Australia’s most stylish homes.

Here are a couple of pics that I’ve lifted from this fabulous

book to whet-your-appetite

captures the style of each occasion and home and

reminds us that the secret of a great meal owes

as much to the people, the place and

the spirit of the event as it does the food.

The book is called

“Guillaume”

and is published by Penguin / Lantern.

on-the-march & dates back to Julius Caesar.

During the Colonial expansion of the British Empire in the 18th & 19th Century,

British gentleman dominated the military and bespoke cabinet makers

produced stylish, portable furniture for this new class of traveler.

THE JAVA CLIPPER

Model ship-building is as old as maritime history itself.

For centuries, plans of new vessels, submitted to the admiralty,

had to be accompanied by a fully detailed scale model.

Today, these models are displayed in maritime museums around the

world as reminders of days-gone-by.

As this craft was handed down from generation to generation,

model shipbuilding developed into an art that is still practiced today.

I'm like a BOWER BIRD when it comes to to blue and Klein Blue has got to be an all time favorite.

Shopping in Bangkok last week I was stopped in my tracks by the backdrop a very simple window display by the fashion brand NAUTICA.

Don'tcha just love the Klein Blue shutters.

FYI: International Klein Blue (IKB) is a deep blue hue first mixed by the

French artist Yves Klein

IKB's visual impact comes from its heavy reliance on Ultramarine

International Klein Blue is outside the gamut of computer displays, and can therefore cannot be portrayed on web pages.

THE BOWER BIRD

Ever since I read about this bird, it has been one of my favorites - the way it makes a home, and decorates it with colorful and shiny things, it was even described as crushing a berry and painting the twigs it has used to make its home.

A bird that understands the importance of interior decorating, is a bird after my own heart. Not only that, but they are very perfectionist about it - if something gets moved (or even stolen by another jealous bower bird, who covets the bits of blue -

it gets put back right where it was taken from!)

This time we were blessed with an extrordinary parcel of land a top Bali's prestigious cliff-top address - " The Bukit ". Perched at cliff's edge, the panoramic views to the Indian Ocean are jaw-dropping.

Our "Dragon's Head" teak garden bench has survived 10 ' rainy-seasons' and still going strong.

In the open-air bathroom are "Fisherman's Chairs" covered in Faded Denim with raffia-knit throw cushions.

The glass "Calypso Lamp" is adorned with an over-scaled necklace of local shells.

The folding colonial "Safari Butler's Tray" is perfect on the lanai for sunset-cocktails.

Made with carved mahogany and rattan weave. The tray is detachable.

( That's one of Stuart's paintings - " Tennis Shoes & Roses" - sometimes we're just over tropical flowers.)

The "Plantation Club Chair" & "Outrigger Drum Stool" were designed for our project in Barbados.
